In the Community

Intimo believes in taking a proactive role in the community, environment and society as a whole. We are committed to ethical, socially responsible and sustainable manufacturing and production and are extremely proud of the strong relationships that we maintain with our like minded suppliers and our community awareness program Intimo Aware.

Intimo is an organisation all about women. When it came to our attention that domestic violence affected so many women, (One in five Australian women have been affected by domestic violence) we developed the community awareness program INTIMO AWARE to raise awareness and understanding about domestic violence. Through the Intimo Aware program we have created a website of links and resources, printed information brochures, facilitated guest speakers and raised funds for domestic violence support services throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Raising Awareness and Understanding of Domestic Violence

Intimo is firmly committed to the Intimo Aware program. We believe that every woman has the right to live and work in an environment that is respectful and free from abuse, violence and fear. Everyday. Always. For more information on Intimo Aware, click through to the Intimo Aware section of this website.

Intimo & Curves - Inspiring and Strengthening Women

During the month of October, Intimo is delighted to be working with the Curves Victorian Co-op in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Together we are aiming to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer with the McGrath Foundation. . We are delighted to work with Curves whose philosophy and practice focuses on “strengthening women” and transforming lives, which is in alignment with Intimo’s commitment to “inspiring women”. Each of the Curves Victorian Co-op Centres, will be running a bra decorating competition and raising funds for the McGrath Foundation to help support the introduction of the first Victorian Breast care nurse. Intimo has sponsored this competition by donating a $100 voucher as the prize for each centre’s winning bra.

You can support this exciting initiative by visiting your local Curves centre, participating in the Bra Decorating Competition and raising awareness about the importance of early detection.

Breast Cancer is common and will affect 1 in 11 Australian Women. The earlier breast cancer is found, the simpler the treatment and the better the outcome. Early detection has been proven to save lives. Be breast aware and check your breasts monthly. For more information about breast checks log on to www.mcgrathfoundation.com.au or www.intimo.com.au

A Community Organisation with Art

Victorian community organisation Family Life utilised the funds donated by Intimo as part of the Intimo Aware White Ribbon Promotion to offer an art class to the women attending their Making Choices program. The Making Choices program is an important stage in the process of reconnecting with people, learning how to make choices and regain control after violent and abusive relationships. The mosaic class offered not only an opportunity to learn a new skill, create a masterpiece and connect with other women, but was symbolically piecing life together for many of the participants.

Many talked about the sense of pride, joy and confidence they experienced from their involvement in the class.  Intimo was privileged to receive an invitation to the celebratory afternoon tea where the beautiful mirrors designed, created and painstakingly put together by all the members of the class were unveiled. The results were spectacular and showcased the valuable work and support that Family Life provide women who have experienced unhealthy and violent relationships.

Partnership with the McGrath Foundation

It is with deep regret that we share the sad news that Jane McGrath passed away on Sunday the 22nd of June. The legacy of Jane's work and dedication to make a difference, lives on in the McGrath Foundation and the message she advocated to all women; early detection saves lives. We were privileged to have Jane personally attend the 2007 Intimo Conference to launch our joint initiative to communicate this message to as many Australian women as possible and were in awe of her passion and dedication. We are deeply moved by the loss of such a remarkable individual and trust that we can keep the importance of her work at the forefront by making every woman aware of the importance of breast examinations.

Intimo is incredibly proud to partner with the McGrath Foundation to promote the importance of breast awareness and the early detection of breast cancer. The McGrath Foundation was co-founded by Jane McGrath and her cricketing husband Glenn after Jane's initial recovery from breast cancer. The McGrath Foundation aims to raise money to place breast care nurses in rural and regional Australia as well as educating young women to be ‘breast aware’. We encourage you to read more about the values, purpose and mission of the McGrath Foundation and log on to their website for more information. In Support of the UpLift Project

Intimo has donated over 20,000 discontinued new and secondhand returned bras to the UpLift Project, an organsation that is supplying bras to indigeneous women in Fiji, and now in other Pacific Island countries. Many indigeneous women in Fiji do not have access to bras because of multiple reasons including the price, size and accessibility. A new bra in Fiji costs around $40 (Australian) and many women in the villages cannot afford these types of prices and rely on purchasing secondhand clothes. However, secondhand bras are rarely available, especially in the larger cup sizes needed by many of the Fijian women. As a result, many of the indigeneous women go without bras and have never owned or worn one in the hot and humid climate. This then contributes to a host of physical problems, including back issues, fungal infections and abscesses between the breast and the chest wall.

The UpLift Project supplies bras to women in villages all over Fiji and now in other Pacific Island countries where women are suffering similar problems due to a lack of bras. Intimo has supplied UpLift Fiji with this shipment of bras which are now making their way over to the islands. The UpLift Project is especially excited because of the number of larger cup bra sizes within this stock. Intimo is very proud to assist and help women every where enjoy the dignity of a well fitting bra. Every day. Always. Visiting Suppliers in China

Intimo is very proud of the close partnerships that we forge with our suppliers. Our Consultants have enjoyed the unique privilege of visiting the facilities, touring the factories and viewing the complete production process with our Consultants firsthand.

In 1999, a group of Intimo Consultants visited the sewing factory in Beijing, then in 2006, a group of 43 Consultants toured the production facilities in Panyu and the textile manufacturer in Shenzhen, China. Our Consultants were introduced to the cutting, sewing, moulding, quality control, planning and product development departments in Panyu. They then toured the knitting, lace and elastic factory, seeing the dyeing, printing and elastic webbing machines, colour management laboratory and lace embroidery facilities.
